Sonoran Spring Snow

THE STORY

About This Piece

Most years, the Sonoran Desert floor stays rust and brown through early spring. But every so often, the season plays a trick. A late storm drops a dusting of snow on the desert and buries the mountains in white, right as the purple verbena comes into bloom. For a morning or two, snow and wildflowers share the same ground.

Spring Snow Desert Wildflowers captures one of those rare mornings. Low mounds of purple verbena glow against frosted rock and a rust-red trail. A black swallowtail rests on the brightest cluster in the foreground. A saguaro, ocotillo, and snow-capped prickly pear hold their familiar places, while the mountains rise fully white beneath drifting cloud and a soft lavender-and-rose sky.

It doesn’t last. By afternoon, the snow on the desert floor is gone, and within a few weeks so are the flowers. Getting both at once takes the right moisture, the right cold, and the right timing, all arriving together in a desert that doesn’t often cooperate. When it does, the result is exactly this.

Print & Production

Spring Snow Desert Wildflowers is printed on metal. Aluminum makes the purple verbena glow against the cool blue-white of the snow, and gives the pink dawn sky and snowy peaks real depth. The contrast between warm and cool, color and frost, is what this piece is built on, and metal renders it with clarity you won’t find on any other surface.

Each print arrives ready to hang, with a clean, modern presentation and a durable, scratch-resistant finish.
