Sonoran Alpenglow

THE STORY

About This Piece

Most people watch the sunset. The ones who’ve lived here a while turn around. Behind them, the mountains are doing something better.

Sonoran Alpenglow captures that moment when the setting sun throws its last light across the desert and the granite peaks to the east catch fire in rose, coral, and gold. The sky above them softens into lavender streaked with pink clouds. Down on the desert floor, a tall saguaro stands in the warm light, its ribs and spines lit edge to edge, while brittlebush blooms bright yellow at its feet. Creosote and palo verde stretch across the valley toward the foothills, with more saguaros scattered all the way to the mountains.

It lasts a few minutes. The color climbs the mountain as the sun drops, fades from gold to pink to violet, and then the peaks go gray and it’s over. Anyone who’s caught it once starts planning their evenings around it.

Print & Production

Sonoran Alpenglow is printed on metal. Aluminum makes the pink and coral light on the granite glow, gives the lavender sky real depth, and keeps the warm yellows of the brittlebush bright against the valley’s cooler shadows. It’s a soft palette with a lot of light, exactly what metal does best.

Each piece is printed directly onto lightweight aluminum with a brilliant, scratch-resistant finish and arrives with a French cleat hanging system, ready to hang.
