Sabino Canyon Cascade

THE STORY

About This Artwork

About This Piece

Most people who visit Tucson eventually make it to Sabino Canyon. But after a good monsoon season, when the water runs fast and clear over the boulders and the pools fill back up, the canyon is something else entirely. It surprises people every time. The Sonoran Desert isn’t supposed to look like this.

Sabino Canyon Cascade captures the canyon at that moment. Clear water spills between massive sculpted boulders into a deep pool carved smooth by centuries of seasonal flow, the stone glowing warm tan and gold in good light. Above the waterline, cottonwoods crowd the streambed in the dense, bright green that only grows where water is reliable. Saguaros cling to the red rock walls above, a reminder that the desert is still out there, just on the other side of this narrow ribbon of water and shade.

That contrast is what keeps people coming back. The dry landscape a hundred yards away and the cool, green, water-carved world inside the canyon feel like two different places. The canyon has been doing this for a long time. It doesn’t get less remarkable.

Print & Production

Sabino Canyon Cascade is printed on metal. Aluminum gives the whitewater real sparkle and brings out the pool’s depth, while the sunlit boulders and bright green trees hold their warmth against the canyon’s cooler shadows.

Each piece is printed directly onto lightweight aluminum with a brilliant, scratch-resistant finish and arrives with a French cleat hanging system, ready to hang.
