The desert holds its breath in the moments before full sunrise. Then the light arrives, not gently but all at once, flooding the gravel path, catching the penstemon mid-bloom, and setting the granite face of the ridge ablaze with the first warmth of the day.

First Light on the Ridge captures that moment in a Sonoran Desert garden in the foothills of Oro Valley, Arizona. A weathered turquoise pot anchors the lower left, its penstemon stalks reaching upward in vivid magenta. A hummingbird hangs in the warm air, wings carrying the first pulse of morning. To the right, a sweep of Mexican gold poppies holds the sunlight like small lanterns. And beyond it all, rising from the desert floor with unmistakable authority, the cliffs of Pusch Ridge glow copper and gold against a deep blue sky.
