About This Piece
Every rancher knows this moment. You find them in the early morning, the mare standing close and watchful, the foal still figuring out its legs. It happens fast, usually within the first hour, and if you’re there to see it, you don’t forget it. New Beginnings puts you in the barn for that hour.
A young rancher kneels in fresh straw, one hand steadying a newborn colt as it works through its first attempt to stand. The quarter horse mare stays close, attentive and calm, trusting the person beside her the way horses trust people they’ve known a long time. Early light pushes through the gaps in the weathered wood siding, catching the dust in the air and laying warm highlights across the animals and the straw. Through the open barn door, saguaros stand against the desert mountains, reminding you this quiet scene unfolds in the Sonoran Desert, on a working ranch, in a tradition that goes back generations in southern Arizona.
The worn tack on the walls, the practical clothes, the honest feel of a barn that gets used every day. Nothing here is staged. This is ranch life as it actually is: unglamorous, demanding, and every so often graced with a moment like this one.
New Beginnings is the second piece in the Desert Companions series, celebrating the bond between people and the animals who share desert life with them.
Print & Production
New Beginnings is printed on metal. Aluminum makes the shafts of light through the barn siding glow, brings out the warm gold of the straw and the horses’ coats, and keeps the bright desert view through the door crisp against the barn’s interior.
Each piece is printed directly onto lightweight aluminum with a brilliant, scratch-resistant finish and arrives with a French cleat hanging system, ready to hang.
