About This Piece
The Sonoran Desert has two wildflower seasons, and they’re unlike each other. The spring bloom comes quietly, building over weeks as the winter rains do their work. The monsoon bloom is different: sudden, vivid, and arriving on the heels of storms that turn the sky into theater. Desert Wildflowers catches the second kind.
The storm is just breaking up. Dark clouds pull apart overhead, sunlight pours through in long golden rays, and rain haze still drifts across the distant mountains. On the desert floor, the rain has done its work. Desert four o’clock spreads in magenta-purple mounds, Arizona summer poppy trails bright orange across the wet ground, and a fairy duster on the right is dotted with wispy crimson blooms. Puddles hold the sky. Palo verde and creosote have gone bright green, and the saguaros stand above it all, washed clean and glowing in the late light.
It won’t last. The puddles will be gone by tomorrow, and the flowers will hold a few days before the heat takes them back. But for this one hour, the desert looks like it’s never been dry a day in its life.
Print & Production
Desert Wildflowers is printed on metal. Aluminum makes the magenta, orange, and crimson blooms glow against the fresh green, and turns the sunlight breaking through the clouds into the brightest point in the room. The reflections in the puddles and the haze on the mountains keep their depth and detail.
Each piece is printed directly onto lightweight aluminum with a brilliant, scratch-resistant finish and arrives with a French cleat hanging system, ready to hang.
